Jeremiah 29: 11 – “For I know the plans I have for you”, says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”.
We are taught from an early age that Jesus loves us, so I think most people would agree that God wants the best for us in our lives. He knows every one of us better than we even know ourselves. His plan is good, His purpose is clear, but the program He uses (aka. “life") is often mysterious. This is frustrating for humans because we have such a worldly perspective on life and often don’t understand the direction our life is going. Sometimes, however, we are totally aligned with His plan and experience His presence like never-before.
I have been lucky enough to experience this type of alignment with my life and God’s work in my life. After graduating from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 2017, I was unsure of the direction I wanted to go with my life. I took a job back at the college after graduation to be an admissions counselor and coach baseball. I quickly realized that office work was not for me, but coaching was. I loved being out on the field working with young people and giving them instruction not just for baseball but for life as well. I felt fulfilled in this mission, so I began looking for opportunities to teach. God intervened.
I applied to Notre Dame of Maryland University’s Operation Teach Program. Operation Teach is a service graduate program that places participants in Baltimore-area Catholic Schools while they work towards their Masters of Arts in Teaching. I was initially accepted into the program to teach Mathematics as long as I was offered a position by one of the eight Catholic schools that interviewed me. Calvert Hall happened to be one of those schools, and they offered me a position. I had no idea that there was an opening in Calvert Hall’s Math Department, but I took a leap of faith and trust and the Lord took care of the rest.
I believe that teaching the next generation of young men how to live according to God’s Word is my purpose. As a Calvert Hall alum (2013) I am incredibly grateful that I am doing this at the high school that impacted my life so much. I’m excited to have the opportunity here to touch so many student’s lives, whether that is in the classroom or on the baseball field as a coach. I hope I can help give them a Calvert Hall experience that will impact their lives forever.
God works in mysterious ways, and it’s no coincidence that I am back where I belong... Home.
