In Memoriam: Br. Kevin Strong, FSC

Remembering the life of Calvert Hall's first president: Br. Kevin Strong, FSC.
On January 3, 2018, Calvert Hall suffered the monumental loss of Calvert Hall’s very first president, Brother Kevin Strong. This years theme “Harken to your call”  was so fitting for Brother Strong, who devoted his entire adult life to the De La Salle Christian Brothers religious community serving for over 65 years in multiple capacities including roles as a teacher, guidance counselor, principal and of course, president. Brother spent many years working with Cuban refugees at LaSalle High School in Miami after Fidel Castro became Prime Minister. Strong spent 10 of his 65 years as the President of Calvert Hall, the longest tenure of any president in the history of the school. During his time as president of CHC, Brother Strong accomplished so much both on the business side and the personal side. In 1995, he initiated a $3 million campaign to increase the school’s endowment while also overseeing over $6 million in campus improvements from fundraising campaigns. Although his business accomplishments are incredible in their own right, Brother was known for his commitment to his students and staff along with his caring and gentle nature. Our current President, Brother John Kane said, “His biggest accomplishment was how he treated people. He was a gentle, caring soul. He made you feel that everything was fine. Even in the most tense times, he’d make you laugh.” He was thoroughly involved with students’ sports and activities, moderating the track and field, wrestling, and cross country teams. Brother Strong will forever be remembered for his tremendous accomplishments and his wonderful service to the Catholic community and more specifically Calvert Hall. He was loved by everyone he met and was a very special human being. Calvert Hall would not be what it is without his tremendous service to our school. Please continue keep Brother and his family in your prayers throughout this year.
