February 2 - Wisdom, Action

Bishop Vetter arrived today at De La Salle Blackfeet school and was greeted by the Little Flower students outside while they were working on their weather unit in Science. Bishop Vetter was very friendly and greeted everyone with a big smile and was happy to say hi to everyone who came up to him. Bishop Vetter then went around handing out stickers and signing them. At the end of the day, we had a mass to celebrate the end of Caholic's Schools Week and Bishop Vetter led the mass and the Little Floweer students ran the mass along side him. Bishop Vetter gave a great mass, gave a nice homily, and helped give out awards to all the students that received good grades.
Tonight, our last night together, we discussed on the topics of wisdom and action. We reflected on our week, where we have seen God in Browning and what lessons we are bringing home with us. Our discussion included our new and changed opinions on the definition of success to different cultures and people, we discussed how to make do with what we are given, such as love, empathy, and forgiveness, and most importantly, how we can give back our God given gifts back into the world. We also reflected on the moments our hearts burned after a week of serving in an uncomfortable environment and in a shocked state. The most beautiful part of this evening was having the symbols of both ash and oil on either of our hands, representing the difficult moments of the trip and the strength in ourselves. We held hands with our brothers, mixing the ash and oil with our hands, and then proceeded to wash our bunkmate’s hands, a both humbling and compassionate experience. This experience was a culmination of all our emotions and discussions this week, and the brotherhood built is nothing then anything we will experience in the rest of our life. Part of this evening’s reflection was also spent contemplating on future steps of actions to “do” for our community and give to the world what it most needs. This trip has made our hearts burn. Amen.
