January 30 - Relationships

Click below read our reflections...
Today we hit the half way point in our trip, and the guys are doing quite well!! We started our day as usual by getting up early, making breakfast and lunch before departing on our twenty minute drive to school. The students at De La Salle Blackfeet school have proven to be difficult to manage, and to build relationships with, but our Calvert Hall boys showed up on day two with the same excitement and energy that they had on their first moments in the school. This proved to be an effective tactic, as I passed the boys throughout the day they were eager to tell me that it was going well, and that they had noticed an improvement from the day before. We left school early, around noon, and departed for out hike in Glacier National Park, where we learned about the park itself as well as the Blackfeet history tied into the land. Though the snow was melting, due to the 50+ degree temperatures, the boys managed to have plenty of fun scooping up what snow was left to make snowballs, while running along the muddy Glacier trails. After the hike, we returned back to the bunkhouse for dinner and reflection, where our word of the evening was "relationships" read on to hear what Ben has to say about our reflection. All of the Calvert Hall boys are happy and healthy, though a bit tired due to our long and eventful days. It has been a joy to spend this week with them, and we are looking forward to our next few days together! -Ms. Pikus

Through the past four days of this immersion trip, I have noticed how important relationships are to me. I have come to get closer with the students I am tutoring through hanging out with them all day at school. Similarly, my relationships with the other Calvert Hall students has become stronger through these four days, and will only get stronger in the next four. For me, relationships mean the world to me. Whether it's family, friends, or mentors, I always appreciate them and try to get the most out of them. This trip is something special that we are experiencing together, and will have these memories with each other for the rest of our lives. These experiences is something unique between the 12 of us that is something that is once in a lifetime. The first half of this trip has been some of the most fun I've had in a while and can't wait for the second half. -Ben B.
